AKURE — A 23-year-old man, Akuade Samuel, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State for allegedly killing his mother, Akuade Olufunke, with a cutlass.
Samuel was brought before Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi on a murder charge over the alleged incident at the Power Line area of Ore on August 6, 2026.
Prosecutor Taiwo Oniyeye told the court that the defendant allegedly used a cutlass to cut his mother’s neck at about noon, causing injuries that resulted in her death.
The charge states that Samuel “unlawfully used a cutlass to cut the neck” of his mother, an offence the prosecution said contravenes Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The prosecution asked the court to remand Samuel while the case file was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Defence counsel, A.D. Obademi, opposed the immediate remand application and asked for a short adjournment to allow him to prepare and file an affidavit in response.
The court adjourned proceedings until August 31, when it will hear the prosecution’s application for the defendant’s remand.
