Women Affairs Minister vows to sue UN

  • Analysts question propriety of action

Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has threatened institute an action against the United Nations (UN) over alleged financial mismanagement.

The Minister while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday alleged that the UN has been receiving monies from donors on behalf of Nigeria.

“I stand here as the minister of women affairs to demand from all the UN of the account of all the monies they sourced from donors in Nigeria’s name,

“We want to see the account of what they did. If you don’t give us this account, at least let Nigerians see what’s going on, then you [UN] apologize to them.

“If we don’t get that report between now and November 15, we’re heading to court,” she thundered

However, public affairs analysts who questioned the propriety of the Minister’s action also queried whether it is within the minister’s portfolio to carry out a legal action against the UN.

Others are also wondering what court the suit will be filed in.
