COVID-19 resurgence: FCT minister says he could impose a second lockdown if…

Following the spike in the number of COVID-19 infections amid the second wave of the pandemic in Abuja, he Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Mohammed Bello has threatened to impose a second lockdown within the Territory.

Bello said that the FCT Administration might not have any other option than to declare another round of lockdown in the territory if residents continued to ignore safety guidelines and protocols as second wave of COVID-19 fully hits the FCT.

The FCT minister stated this on Monday at the FCT Emergency Stakeholders’ Review Meeting on the 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

The FCT Emergency Stakeholders’ Review Meeting came on the heels of the death of Leadership Newspaper publisher, Sam Nda Isaiah, who died from complications from COVID-19.

While decrying non-compliance of residents to COVID-19 safety protocols, Bello noted that the second wave of the pandemic had become deadlier as lives were already being lost to in the FCT.

The minister called on FCT residents to adhere to all protocols stipulated to prevent the the spread of COVID-19 virus by maintaining social distancing, washing their hands and wearing of face masks.
