Despite the many challenges that 2020 has been characterised by, women have been called on to reach out the less privileged this Christmas.
Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), Barr. Mary Ekpere-Eta, in her Christmas message urged that women offer hands of assistance to those in lack this season.
She opined that though the year has been a tough one for many families courtesy of the slowing down of the economy owing to Covid-19 pandemic, the less privileged should not be forgotten.
“That 2020 was a difficult year for many is stating the obvious. Despite this, I urge that women as managers of the home find means of reaching out beyond their families to those who don’t have much to celebrate Christmas with”, the statement read.
Ekpere-Eta also commended women for their resourcefulness in a year that people in Nigeria, like other countries struggled to make ends meet.
“Nigerian women deserve commendation for managing their homes in a year that tasked many. I celebrate women’s dexterity and commitment to ensuring the welfare and happiness of their families as well as the communities they belong to”, she stated.
She however called on women as enforcers of discipline in the homes and communities to do all they can for their children and other young people to observe Covid-19 protocol while celebrating Christmas.
“I wish Nigerian women and their families a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year”, Ekpere-Eta further stated.
