Happy Birthday Pastor Loveth Nkadi, By Tony Eluemunor

Friday, August 15, 2025 belonged in a special way to Pastor Loveth Nkadi. It was her birthday …and that marked a big day in Asaba where she has for over a decade been a major prophetess ministering to both the high and the mighty as well as the lowest of the low.

In these days of Mega Churches, Pastor Loveth has so far shunned the denomination challenge which has often divided the Christian family in Nigeria and elsewhere and has been ministering to one and all. So, she heads an inter-denominational Christian prayer ministry named the Peculiar Solution And Miracle Ministry (PSMN). For now, its prayer
sessions hold on Tuesdays, starting from 10: AM, at Maduemezie Hall, Konwe Road, Off Nnebisi Road, Asaba. The Asaba ministry started in 2012 and has exploded in great measure.

Pastor Loveth is from Ossissa town in Ndokwa East LGA, near Kwale in Delta North Part of Delta State. But she grew up in Uchi, Owele, Okomedo area of Anambra state. Okumedo is a village within the Umuoji community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Pastor Nkadi’s trajectory in the prophetic ministry did not begin as in the stories of most others you ever knew. No, her own is special, unique and sometimes frightening. Think of a child, a mere child often not knowing her left from her right seeing a fully grown up person and then begin to drop frightful and frightening messages about that person.

The first reaction of by-standers would be total shock about the goings on concerning such a strange child. The second is that the parents would begin to straighten out the child…through beatings to correct the malady. The third would be to take that child to spiritualists, both hues of churches and traditionalists to find answers to the mystery. All of this played out in the life of the child that grew up to become today’s Pastor Loveth.

Yet, no amount of beating would stop her from narrating her visions because the child in her innocently assumed that the visions she was seeing were open to all persons and that such was actually the way of the world.

Then, as she was approaching age 15, she saw a woman who was passing. She began to cry and shout that that woman who was passing was actually inside a coffin. That woman was pregnant and was accompanied by her daughter. Ah, that was the height of it all; she was given the beating of her life just to teach her to shut up her mouth. Then, just
hours later, a loud cried disturbed the entire vicinity; it came from that woman’s daughter, and it bore the ominous message that her mother
had succumbed to a sudden death.

Pastor Loveth’s parents’ reaction was, well, not strange. They began to flog her as though that would solve the “problem”. It got to the point where she was often asked to be looking skywards or downwards if they were taking her anywhere so that she wouldn’t see any strange visions. Or they would order her never to open her mouth until she was safely back in the confines of the family house.

At age 18, she came to Ibusa to live with her aunt to learn a trade, but illness intervened and she returned to her parents at Owelechi.

Then she started following her age mates to churches, and she began to channel her heavenly messages through Pastors. She was lucky then to belong to the Ministry of Perfection, but after her marriage, she entered the Christ Royal Ambassadors Ministry, Ibusa, where she actually found a mentor who guided her to climb higher on the
spiritual ladder.

The Pastor of that church, Reverend Favour Esezobo, put her under his wings, gave her much encouragement. Under him, she experienced her first true mentorship. Even at present, she calls Rev. Esezobo her spiritual father. They still meet, they still pray together in a father-daughter-like collaboration.

She later attended the Bible School of Faith Liberation Church (Jubilee Centre), Asaba, which Bishop Nuel Ikeakanam, a one-time- journalist, oversees. Ikeakanam, from Issele-Uku, started his journalism career at NTA Benin, then he was on the Editorial Board of
New Nigerian Newspapers, Kaduna and later became Editor, Nigerian Observer newspaper, Benin-City, before heeding the call to serve in the Lord’s Vineyard. (Oh, Nuel’s schoolmates at St. Anthony’s College, Ubulu-Uku, the university and journalist colleagues still remember him as the very gentle and soft-spoken Tony).

How has her spiritual journey been? Pastor Loveth’s reply was short and pointed: “My brother, it was war, pure war. My family did everything to stop me. My people even carried me to a shrine to wash my head so that I would stop seeing strange visions. But I resisted.
Three days later, the priestess of that shrine died”.

Then she remembered how she warned her father not to travel home during a particular New Yam Festival of her home town because enemies with satanic spiritual powers would attack him there. Her father disdained that prophecy after all, he had been travelling home before that. Unfortunately, it was only after he made that visit and died that the
members of her family began to take her seriously. That experience still haunts her because he she loved her father dearly and still cherishes his memory.

Now, Pastor Loveth Nkadi, married with children, has become one of the Asaba landmarks. Her name has become a household word in Asaba and people with problems come to her from all across the federation.

Some members of her prayer ministry recounted their experiences: The first, a lady from Isoko, Delta South Senatorial District, Mrs. Linda Nwokolo said, “I heard of Pastor Loveth and her ministry when a neighbour invited one of my friends who was going through a difficult path. She asked for my opinion and I asked her to take an exploratory trip and report back to me because I, too, needed spiritual help. That was in 2016, September, and she was highly impressed. So, I accompanied her the next Tuesday and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“I attend Living Faith Church where we pray kingdom advancement prayers, but here, I was introduced to liberation prayer. In no time God solved the problems that took me there. One particular challenge I had was health. My doctor had told me that I would not
able to give birth again after I had my first child. On seeing Pastor Loveth for the first time, she told me that I had a child already and that she saw me having more children as well as a surgery. She asked me not to be afraid that the surgery would be successful. Yes, I had
my second child and then successfully had that surgery after which I had a third child. I had all my children in that same hospital so the doctor that had said I would be unable to have more than a child was dumbfounded. I still see him and we laugh over it because I was then suffering from epigastric hernia and my stomach was massively swollen”.

The second testimony came from Mrs. Ebietan Judith Bosede. She said “I met Pastor Loveth, through my friend who was a pastor under her. My brother was wrongly accused, arrested and detained at Police Headquarters, here in Asaba. My mother was a Pastor in Warri, so her Pastor colleagues had prayed but nothing worked. On a Friday evening,
we went to the church from which Pastor Loveth moved to Maduemezie Plaza but she was not around. We waited. Within 30 minutes, she walked in and announced that she was headed to the market, but the Lord asked her to return to attend to the tortured souls waiting for her, and she began giving us messages even without asking us any questions.

“She told us that my brother was innocent and that the bribe I wanted to give to a Policeman would not work as my brother would not be released immediately. She said we should hold on to God and be patient because the boy would not come out now, but would later come out unexpectedly and that God would make him rich, a millionaire, straight from prison.

“I didn’t obey her instructions because it didn’t make sense that someone would become a millionaire from prison, and even a pauper would not want to remain in prison. So, I gathered N350,000 meant for that Police IPO and returned to Pastor Loveth to pray over it. She said again that the IPO would collect the money, but my brother would not be released. I didn’t trust her after all, the IPO had given us every assurance. On the appointed day, the IPO asked that my brother be remanded in prison custody. The Judge accepted, and I fainted. Yes, I fainted.

So, I returned to Pastor Loveth and pleaded with her to forgive my unbelief. She reiterated that God would release my brother after favouring him. My brother was released in 2021. You won’t believe it, but he bought his large tract of land from the prison. The big
generator they have now in Okere Prison, Warri, my brother bought it. From the prison, he released more than five inmates. Remember that Pastor Loveth had told us that my brother would be favoured from the prison and God did it; right in the prison, he met a lady who changed his life.

Now, my mother is dead and I head her church ministry. Pastor Loveth is the minister to me, who is the head of that ministry – Holy Ghost Prophetic Solution Ministry, Eterigbe, Warri, near the Federal Petroleum University”.

When Mrs. Ebietan spoke with me, she was visiting Asaba to honour Pastor Loveth on her birthday, just to honour her. God honours her words. When she tells you that such and such are going to happen, you better believe her – in your own interest.

Pastor Loveth is married with children. Often she is just an ordinary wife and mother concerned about ordinary things; children’s school, their health. Other times, she would talk lovingly about her brothers and her aged mother, who is living with her. At such times, she would leave you wondering when and how she goes from the physical world to
the realm of the spiritual. She attributes it all to God, the Almighty who knows all things but whom we can’t comprehend.

NCAA slammed over ban on airplane mode, group says it’s outdated, embarrassing

Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA

The Network for the Actualisation of Social Growth and Viable Development (NEFGAD) has condemned the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for instructing passengers to completely power off mobile phones during flights, calling the directive outdated and embarrassing for Nigeria.

The NCAA, led by Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo, recently announced at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja that all electronic devices must now be switched off entirely during flights, effectively ending the use of “flight mode.”

In a statement signed by Country Head Mr. Akingunola Omoniyi, NEFGAD argued that the move risks portraying Nigeria as technologically backwards. The organisation accused the NCAA of attempting to cover up regulatory inefficiencies that continue to embarrass the nation.

“Global aviation has moved past banning mobile devices. Many international airlines now offer free inflight Wi-Fi throughout flights,” NEFGAD stated, urging the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) to verify whether Nigerian aircraft meet modern safety and connectivity standards.

The group warned that the NCAA’s directive suggests Nigeria’s airspace is dominated by obsolete planes built before 2000, a perception that could deter investors and travelers alike. NEFGAD contrasted this with airlines like Emirates, Lufthansa, British Airways, and Delta, which provide internet services at all flight phases, highlighting Nigeria’s lag.

NEFGAD further criticised the NCAA for neglecting more urgent issues, including aircraft standards, passenger protection, and aviation security. The organisation called on the regulator to embrace innovation, benchmark airlines against international standards, and implement reforms that reflect modern technology while enhancing passenger experience.

“This is not the era for regulatory grandstanding but for global competitiveness and innovation. Nigerian aviation must move with the times,” NEFGAD concluded.

APC/PDP: Criminal or terrorist organisations?

By Ochereome Nnanna

A Canadian Federal Court presided over by Justice Phuong Ngo, recently declared our former and incumbent ruling political parties – Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC – “terrorist organisations”. This has kept many of us talking. The Presidency, APC and PDP have reacted temperamentally. Indeed, a Foreign Affairs Ministry’s spokesman demanded a “retraction” which, to me, is untenable.

Justice Ngo was merely explaining the law of his country because a Nigerian, one Douglas Egharevba, sought asylum in Canada. He was rejected because of his past links to the PDP and APC. Egbarevba was obviously one of those politicians who enjoyed the incumbency bounties of the PDP but crawled over to the APC when the latter came to power. When Egharevba’s centre could no longer hold, he joined the japa train to Canada and tried to play victim by applying for asylum. “Smart” guy.

Justice Ngo determined that since Egharevba was linked to the two political parties that have captured and controlled power by subverting democracy and the rule of law, which under Canadian law constitute acts of terrorism, he was not eligible for the asylum. That is the law of Canada. It is a good law. In Nigeria, politicians buy votes, hire thugs to snatch ballot boxes, compromise collation of results. They pay off electoral officials, security, army and police; assassinate their opponents and bribe election tribunal judges in order to grab power.

Under Nigerian law, these acts are categorised as “crimes”. Indeed, political pundits have dubbed Nigerian power politics as a “criminal enterprise” masquerading as democracy. But Canada took it further by calling these violations “terrorism”. When you criminally overwhelm the power of the people to choose their leaders and conduct democracy outside the rule of law, you deserve to be called a “terrorist” and treated as such.

In February this year, the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria had also turned down the visa application of the highest Nigerian military officer, Chief of Defence, CDS, General Christopher Musa, for reasons not officially disclosed, though some speculated it had to do with human rights violations. Canada is one of the Western nations that religiously sends election observers to major Nigerian elections, in addition to having their High Commission here. So, they know what goes on.

Under the Nigerian Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, terrorism is described as any act aimed at intimidating the public, disrupting essential service or justice, destabilising or destroying the fundamental political, constitutional, economic or social structures of Nigeria or influencing government by intimidation or coercion. It is not much different from that of Canada since they spin off from the same universal declaration of the concept. The difference is that Canada also strongly applies it to the democratic process, and Nigeria does not. Canada understands that winning power through intimidation or criminality is more dangerous than a jihadist detonating an improvised explosive to kill himself and others.

APC and PDP are equally guilty of “ballot box terrorism”, so are other political parties. But the APC dethroned the PDP and ascended to power through the many “gunpowder terrorism” acts of some of their leaders. The late President Muhammadu Buhari used terrorism to emerge as an elected president after losing three bids. His declaration that “the dog and baboon will all be soaked in blood” (May 14, 2011) if the 2015 election was “rigged”, said it all.

Also, a former APC leader, openly admitted in 2021, that “we” (APC leaders) brought the Fulani terrorists from Sierra Leone, Senegal, Mali, Niger and Chad to fight President Goodluck Jonathan’s government if his party lost the 2015 election. The gunmen refused to leave when their services were no longer needed. Instead, they settled down to form bandit gangs, decimating states like Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Niger, Kaduna and Kwara. According to this leader in an interview: “We are not asking the right questions on how the same Fulani we have been living with suddenly turned out a menace. We also must ask how they had access to their guns. The security agencies have not been open about the nature of the problem”. To this date, the man has not denied or retracted this sensational claim credited to him. More ominously, Nigerians do not seem to care!

Not to be outdone, former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, also boasted about how he paid huge sums to Fulani herdsmen militants within and outside Nigeria not to attack his state while he, as their kinsman, was in power! The terrorists simply boosted their armouries and continued to attack Southern Kaduna communities throughout el-Rufai’s reign.

Buhari as president did not even pretend about his role in promoting Fulani herdsmen terrorism in Nigeria. Thousands of armed Fulani fighters were shipped down South in food and cement trucks, and planted in forests to attack communities and grab their lands for the forceful settlement of Fulani from everywhere. The regime sponsored many initiatives to seize ancestral lands throughout the country for the settlement of Fulani herdsmen in communes known as “Ruga”. The Federal Government pumped hundreds of billions of naira into Fulani pastoralist appeasement without National Assembly approval or accountability.

Armed Fulani criminals, which rank among the most murderous terrorist organisations in the world, have never been even officially identified as a terrorist threat to Nigeria, even under Tinubu. They appear to enjoy exclusive licence to attack, kill, burn, rape, kidnap and displace communities at will. The Federal Government, the Military, Police, other security agencies and a section of the media call their terrorist exploits “farmers-herders clashes”!

Thanks, Canada, for calling a dog its name.

Pay Rise for Political Office-Holders, …and essential service providers have long been ignored

By M.O. Idam

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU

With the deepest of malaise, as a severely marginalized citizen, I write cheerlessly, in reaction to the viral news which claims that the administration of Mr. President is considering a proposal by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to increase the salary of his political appointees.

Mr. President must not only ignore such a proposal by the RMAFC as being thoughtless if not insensible or self-engineered, to say the least — coming at a time that Nigerians are yearning for a drastic reduction in the cost of governance. Mr. President should instead treat the proposal as a subversive or traitorous acts by mischievous elements within his administration to de market his already blurry image before Nigerians.

Perhaps, someone should remind Mr. President that members of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) recently suspended their seven-day warning strike against poor salaries and welfare, following a yet to be fulfilled promises made by the Federal Government.

The NANNM have had to struggle for better welfare just like a sea of other essential Federal Government workers out there who have at different times battled without success, for an upgrade in their meagre wage.

Mr. President may need to prioritize measures required in arresting the persistent agitations by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD)—to prevent Nigerian doctors from fleeing Nigeria in an exodus, for a greener welfare, other than consider an increase in the salary of appointees who are extremely dispensable.

Mr. President should remember ASUU, NLC and TUC who constantly issue threats of an indefinite strike as a result of several unfulfilled promises and undertakings by the Federal Government.

Curiously, I seek to know if these essential service deliverers are in the estimation of RMAFC giving way for political appointees who already live in luxury and affluence off public funds, to have their ostentatious lifestyle adjusted upward?

Mr. President should refrain from or resist every attempt to have such or similar other self-serving proposals by RMAFC approved, under any guise. HE should consider same as being engineered by self-centred actors in government who are disconnected from Nigeria’s realities.

Political appointment must remain a call to service and not a means to material possession. Those interested in wealth accumulation should give up their appointment for those willing to serve gratuitously.

Proposed Pay Rise for Political Office-Holders: Political leadership must reflect service and sacrifice, not privilege — NBA SPIDEL

The Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) of the Nigerian Bar Association has joined other stakeholders to demand that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) shelve its plans to review the salaries of political office-holders in Nigeria.

RMAFC Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, had on Monday, reportedly hinted at the plan and described the current earnings of the President and other political office occupants as inadequate, unrealistic, and outdated in the face of rising responsibilities and economic challenges.

Below is the full text of the press release signed by NBA-SPIDEL’s Chairman, Professor Paul Ananaba, SAN and Litigation Committee Chair, Olukunle Edun, SAN.

NBA-SPIDEL Cautions Against Salary Increase for Political Office Holders

The Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) of the Nigerian Bar Association has observed with concern the recent proposal by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to review upwards the salaries of political office holders in Nigeria.

While SPIDEL acknowledges the constitutional responsibility of RMAFC to periodically review the remuneration of public office holders, we consider it imperative to emphasise that such powers must be exercised with due regard to prevailing socio-economic realities and in line with the principles of equity and social justice.

At a time when the majority of Nigerians are contending with high inflation, rising energy costs, and the inadequacy of the newly approved minimum wage, any upward review of salaries for political office holders would be inequitable and inconsistent with the constitutional directive that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government (Section 14(2)(b), 1999 Constitution).

We therefore urge RMAFC and the Federal Government to suspend consideration of any such review until economic conditions improve, and to focus instead on measures that will alleviate the hardship of ordinary citizens, including effective implementation of the minimum wage, timely payment of salaries, and expansion of social welfare programmes.

SPIDEL reaffirms that political leadership must reflect service and sacrifice, not privilege, insulated from the realities faced by the governed.

Obasanjo’s new book and ‘choice words for the judiciary’, X users says he had 8 years to revamp justice sector but failed

  • The judiciary has steadily declined, reached a lamentable state —Obasanjo

Following the publication of former President Obasanjo’s new book, Nigeria: Past and Future, in which he criticised Nigeria’s judiciary, citing corruption and political interference as factors eroding public trust, a piqued X user (formerly Twittter) @Ikemchingy remarked that “Obasanjo had 8 years to prevent these events but the myopic nature of the average Nigerian politician came into him. He thought he would be president forever.”

In the book published by OOPL under the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, the ex-president uncovered what he calls the judiciary’s “precipitous fall” from independence to the current Fourth Republic.

Asserting that the reputation of the judiciary has steadily declined over decades, reaching a “lamentable” state in today’s democracy, he cautioned that when justice is available only to the highest bidder, society faces “despair, anarchy, and violence” instead of fairness and order.

Drawing on personal observations, he recalled visiting a northern state about ten years after leaving office, where a governor pointed out six duplexes allegedly built by a judge using funds acquired as chairman of election tribunals. Such examples, he claims, explain why politicians often distrust the electoral process.

Taking to his X handle, Chidi Odinkalu, author of the recently published The Selectorate, a book about ‘When Judges Topple the People’, observed that “President Olusegun Obasanjo’s latest book has some choice offerings on the Nigerian judiciary….”

And while many X users are clamouring for copies of the book, @JUSTINON14 said: “I’m not a fan of what’s going on currently but permit me to write that OBJ himself is no Saint. Morris Iwu’s actions/inactions during his time are still there for all to see.”

For @Eric69627227. “Obasanjo had his shortcomings and is not adduced a saint but if the past leaders can turn to a new narrative that will encourage the emergence of a better Nigeria, may be there will be a hope rekindled. Else, election fraud with Nigeria’s INEC will keep thriving unabated unchecked.”

Obasanjo directly criticised Professor Mahmood Yakubu, head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the agency of prioritizing the chairman’s will over the people’s. He further alleged that tribunal judges, appellate justices, and even the Supreme Court have in multiple cases “corruptly overridden the will of millions of voters.”

The ex-resident also claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari benefited from such judicial favoritism, rewarding judges involved in his election disputes with appointments regardless of rank or age. He concluded sharply that courts often serve as “courts of corruption rather than courts of justice.”

Obasanjo’s remarks underscore widespread concerns about the credibility of Nigeria’s elections and the integrity of its judiciary, a matter of persistent anxiety for both citizens and international observers.

Anambra NYSC/Vigilante Saga: The attack on Edema Jennifer is part of larger pattern of violence that affects women in Nigeria —NBA-SPIDEL

The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law
(NBA-SPIDEL) has called an independent investigation into the stripping and brutalisation of a female corps member, Jennifer Edema, by gun-wielding Anambra vigilante officials.

While assuring the victim of their readiness to support her with pro bono representation, NBA-SPIDEL, in a press statement signed by its Chairman, Professor Paul Ananaba, SAN and the Litigation Committee Chair, Olukunle Edun, SAN, observed that: “The attack on Edema Jennifer is not an isolated incident; it is part of a larger pattern
of violence that disproportionately affects women in Nigeria.”

The Press statement reads:

The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) joins the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, in condemning the recent gory incident of violent physical and demeaning assault on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at their lodge in Anambra State by members of a vigilante group known as Agunechemba Vigilante Group. The inhuman, despicable and beastly attack on the female corps member, Edema Jennifer, serving in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of the State, should not be condoned in any civilized society.

NBA-SPIDEL is deeply disturbed and outraged by this act of violence against the
young lady. This incident is a stark reminder of the pervasive nature of gender-based
violence and the urgent need for concerted action. NBA-SPIDEL stands firmly against all forms of violence against women and the girlchild and the violation of their rights to
dignity of their persons as guaranteed by Section 34(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended and the provisions of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015.

The attack on Edema Jennifer is not an isolated incident; it is part of a larger pattern
of violence that disproportionately affects women in Nigeria. The Vigilante group acted completely outside the bounds of law and decency. NBA-SPIDEL is poised to stand firm and demand the respect for the rule of law in all states of the federation as it is essential for a just and stable society, and for ensuring that everyone, including those in position of power, are subject to and accountable under the law, prevented from arbitrary exercise of power and for the protection of the fundamental rights of Nigerian citizens.

NBA-SPIDEL therefore, makes the following demands:

  1. Calls on the Nigerian Police, National Human Rights Commission and the Anambra State Government to immediately set up an independent investigation team. This is crucial for ensuring a fair and impartial process, especially as the operatives were allegedly empowered by the Anambra State Government to carry out security functions. The independent investigation will help to build public trust in the system and provides victims with a sense of justice. NBA-SPIDEL is willing to participate in the investigation process,
    as an observer.

2. All persons indicted by the investigation report must be immediately charged before the appropriate law court. NBA-SPIDEL is willing to offer pro bono legal representation at the trial for the victim of the violent crime.

  1. The Anambra State Government should implement comprehensive measures to prevent future acts of violence against women and the girl-child, including strengthening laws, training its informal law enforcement groups on upholding fundamental human rights of citizens while carrying out their functions, providing support services to victims and conducting public awareness campaigns on the need for Vigilante groups within the State to respect the fundamental human rights of citizens and act within the ambit of the law.

The NBA-SPIDEL Public Interest Litigation Committee has been mandated to intervene in this matter and ensure that Miss Edema Jennifer is given adequate legal representation in pursuing her legal remedies for the assault. NBA-SPIDEL continues to stand for justice, fairness and the rule of law.

Vigilantes who cruelly assaulted and publicly stripped female corps member arrested

  • NYSC says its ‘unacceptable and dehumanising’
  • The viral video of the female Corper in Anambra state is a stark call for accountability — Ezeilo, SAN

The government of Anambra State has confirmed the arrest and detention of members of its security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, following the brutal assault and public stripping of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elobor, in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

Law & Society had earlier reported the disturbing news where fully armed vigilantes stormed the corps members’ lodge in Oba and brutally assaulted the young lady.

In the footage, the operatives accused Elobor and her colleagues of being internet fraudsters, despite the victims presenting valid NYSC identification cards and uniforms.

The video captured the vigilantes violently beating Elobor, tearing her clothes, and stripping her naked as she cried for help, while her colleagues and other eyewitnesses pleaded for the assault to stop.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the brutality and demanding justice.

Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’ on Tuesday, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, described the assault as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” confirming that those responsible had been arrested and were being investigated.

“The operatives were on the trail of some suspected cultists riding on motorcycles when they pursued them into a compound,” Emeakayi explained.

“In the process of searching the houses in line with their mandate, the unfortunate incident involving the corps member occurred. While they were acting within the law, their conduct in that instance was unacceptable.”

Emeakayi explained that the incident took place during Operation Udo Ga-Achi, a joint security operation involving the police, army, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the state’s vigilante outfit, Agunechemba, established under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.

He added that the government acted swiftly to address the assault.

“Immediately the incident happened, we arrested the operatives involved and placed them in detention,” he said.

“Our practice is to first carry out preliminary investigations, bring in the victims and complainants, and then determine whether the matter warrants internal disciplinary action or prosecution.”

He said that the victim, Elobor, was invited to his office alongside NYSC officials, where he personally listened to their account of the ordeal.

“Our conclusion is that while the operatives were on a legitimate assignment, the manner in which they acted was not acceptable. We have made that very clear, and disciplinary measures are being taken,” Emeakayi stated.

He further clarified the difference between Operation Udo Ga-Chi and Agbunechemba, noting that the former is a joint security operation while the latter is the state’s statutory security outfit created by law.

Emeakayi assured residents that Governor Soludo’s administration “will not condone any abuse of power by security agents, particularly against innocent citizens.”

Condemning the assault via her X formerly Twitter) handle, Life Bencher and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Joy Ezeilo, SAN, also questioned who filmed and who spread the video.

“Why do some men—especially those tasked with protecting us—choose to target women and violate their dignity? The viral video of the female Corper in Anambra state is a stark call for accountability: those responsible must be held to account. Who filmed this outrage, and who spread it?

“The answer, disturbingly, points to security personnel themselves. This demands urgent action. Every woman deserves respect for her dignity, her privacy, and her bodily autonomy. Let us stand up for women’s sanctuary—because justice means protecting everyone’s humanity.

“We demand safe cities for women. The current state of impunity must come to an end”, she said.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) equally condemned the assault.

In a statement issued in the early hours of Wednesday by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the scheme described the attack as “unacceptable and dehumanising,” stressing that no justification could warrant such treatment of a Corps Member.

“Management wishes to assure the general public that it believes in, and supports the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police Force towards unravelling what transpired. This we trust will help get justice for the Corps Member in question and any other aggrieved party,” the statement read.

The scheme further disclosed that administrative steps were being taken to provide both physiological and psychological support to the affected Corps Member, while restating its commitment to the welfare and security of all Corps Members nationwide.

He added that the operatives later became familiar with his face and would often exchange tense glances whenever they crossed paths.
