Turkish Televangelist Sentenced To 1,075 Years For S*x Crimes

A Turkish Muslim televangelist who surrounded himself with scantily-clad women on TV was jailed for more than 1,000 years on Monday for sex crimes, local media reported.

Adnan Oktar preached conservative views while women he called his “kittens” — many of whom appeared to have had plastic surgery — danced around him in the TV studio.

The 64-year-old was detained in June 2018 as part of a crackdown on his group by the financial crimes unit of the Istanbul police.

He was sentenced to 1,075 years for crimes including sexual assault, sexual abuse of minors, fraud, and attempted political and military espionage, the private NTV broadcaster reported.

Some 236 suspects have been on trial in the case, 78 of whom are under arrest, according to the official Anadolu news agency.

The hearings have featured lurid details and harrowing sex crime allegations.

Oktar told the presiding judge in December that he had close to 1,000 girlfriends.

“There is an overflowing of love in my heart for women. Love is a human quality. It is a quality of a Muslim,” he said in another hearing in October.

He added on another occasion,

“I am extraordinarily potent.”

Oktar first came to public attention in the 1990s when he was the leader of a sect that was caught up in multiple sex scandals.

His online A9 television channel began broadcasting in 2011, drawing denunciations from Turkey’s religious leaders.

One of the women at his trial, identified only as CC, told the court that Oktar had repeatedly sexually abused her and other women.

Some of the women he had raped were forced to take contraceptive pills, CC told the court.

Asked about 69,000 contraception pills found in his home by the police, Oktar said they were used to treat skin disorders and menstrual irregularities.

He also dismissed any link to a group led by US-based Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkish authorities accuse of orchestrating a coup attempt in 2016.

Oktar is a creationist who rejects the Darwinian theory of evolution and has written a 770-page book called “The Atlas of Creation” under the pen name, Harun Yahya. (thenigerialawyer)

Labour suspends planned strike against CAC mgt

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) has suspended its planned industrial action against Corporate Affairs Commission CAC for two weeks

The suspension followed the intervention of the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Sani Gwarzo over alleged maladministration in the agency.

AUPCTRE, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, in a strike notice dated December 18, 2020 and addressed to the Registrar-General of CAC had vowed to shut the agency on Tuesday following the expiration of the 21- day notice to the commission.

The union had frowned at the chief executive of the commission for his alleged anti-workers policies in the commission.

After a marathon meeting on Monday with AUPCTRE led by its President, Comrade Benjamin Anthony and Dr Gwarzo, the union agreed to shift the proposed strike by 14 days.

Gwarzo directed the Registrar General CAC to maintain status quo and reverse all actions initiated against the CAC branch union executive by the management

As a result of the intervention the union issued statement shifting the proposed industrial action to the next 14 days within which all contentious issues shall be resolved.

According to the statement, the union, accused CAC management of unilaterally restricting staff vacancies against the recommendations of the committee on the commission’s organogram, and particularly expressed disgust at the “unjustified barring of certain categories of staff from writing promotion examination”.

It also accused management of stopping all staff loans, hasty, draconian and unilateral decision making leadership style, and denial of 2019 promotion arrears to deserving workers.

The union also accused management of stopping salaries of workers even before queries were issued, at the peak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Kidnapped Couple To Police: You Lied About Rescue Claims, We Paid N2m Ransom

A couple, Mr and Mrs Gbenga Ibikunle who were abducted along Uso – Owo highway in Ondo state have narrated how their abductors collected N2m cash along the highway before releasing them.

Recall that the couple who travelled to the wife’s home town in Ebonyi state with their three children were heading back to the state when they were kidnapped. While the couple were marched into the thick forest by the gunmen, their three children and the Lexus Jeep were abandoned on the highway.

They were released after spending three days in the kidnapper’s den. Police PRO Tee Leo lkoro had claimed that two suspects were arrested after combing the forest by joint security operatives after the abductors demanded N2m ransom.

But while narrating their ordeal to newsmen in Akure, the husband, Gbenga Ibikunle said the claims by the security operatives that their release was secured by them was far from the truth.

According to him, ” it was my family members that paid the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.

The security agencies were not involved in our release at all.” “We were travelling back from Ebonyi state to Akure on the 5th of January and when we got to Uso towards Ogbese, I saw a bike man riding in front of my car on the same direction. All of a sudden, he stopped and I hit him with my car. ”

As I stopped to help the man alongside my wife, the kidnappers came out from the bush and started shooting for about 10 mins. “They started beating me and later marched us into the bush and others suspects ransacked my car and carted away valuable items including the huge sum of money.

“My children wanted to follow us to where they were dragging us but the kidnappers chased them away back to the major road. “We walked for like five hours inside the bush and later took us to where they keep other victims.

They tied us down and started beating us again. ” We were in the bush with them for three good days without food. They treated us like criminals. They beat us with stick and cutlass. ” We met a man in their den, who was also released the same way we were. His own family parted with N10 million before he was released”. “At a point, they wanted to rape my wife, but she tricked them that she was three months pregnant”.

“They later gave us a mobile phone to call our family demanding for N20m. At the end of the day, my family rally round and paid N2m. Other victims, we met there paid N10m and we were all released at the same spot.”

” They collected the ransom along the road without being jittery. In fact, they counted all the money before they released me to my brother, who brought the N2 million”. ” l was then surprised that police were claiming that they rescued me.

This is nothing but a lie coming from the pit of hell”. “I can say it boldly that, no security agency came to our rescue. We were released around 1 am after ransom was paid to them”. “If the police were professional enough, they would have arrested them all because they came out on the major road to collect the ransom.

They are just deceiving us all. ” The victim who said that their abductors are Fulani people lamented that Nigeria is in a big mess. We don’t have security in this country anymore. It is sad that our security agencies are not effective.” “The kidnappers carried out their operations with impunity.

They boasted that they will kill any policeman that wanted to rescue us”. He said, “I am weeping for this country because we are not safe. We can no longer travel”. Vanguard

Twitter suspends tens of thousands of accounts dedicated to sharing QAnon content

Twitter Inc said it has suspended more than 70,000 accounts since Friday that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content after last week’s violence in Washington when supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol.

“Given the violent events in Washington, DC, and increased risk of harm, we began permanently suspending thousands of accounts that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content on Friday afternoon”, Twitter said in a blog late on Monday.

“These accounts were engaged in sharing harmful QAnon-associated content at scale and were primarily dedicated to the propagation of this conspiracy theory across the service”, the company said.

QAnon backers have pushed conspiracies on social media that include the baseless claim that Trump secretly is fighting a cabal of child-sex predators, among them prominent Democrats, figures in Hollywood and “deep state” allies.

Twitter had said on Friday it would permanently suspend accounts pushing QAnon content, banning prominent right-wing boosters of its conspiracy theories.

The storming of the Capitol building last week by Trump supporters delayed the certification of Biden’s election victory.

Lawmakers were forced to flee, as the building was mobbed by the president’s supporters who overwhelmed security forces. Five people died in the violence including one Capitol Police officer who was beaten as he tried to ward off the crowds.(Reuters).

Dangote Group signs US$4.34b cement production contract with Chinese Sinoma

Dangote Group, company of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has signed a US$4.34b business deal with Chinese cement giant, Sinoma International Engineering.

The Dangote Group chairman, Aliko Dangote made this known on Sunday in a statement he issued in Lagos for the New Year’s business strategy.

He noted that the deal is to enable his company cement sector expand to six more African countries leveraging on the business and economic possibilities of the new African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) that came into force on January 1, 2021

Aliko Dangote said that the signing of the $4.34 billion contract with Sinoma International Engineering Company Limited, a Chinese construction giant, was “part of the strategy to fulfill the desire for Africa’s self-sufficiency in cement production.

According to the Dangote, the contract was for the construction of 11 new cement plants in 10 African countries, and Nepal in Asia.

Dangote said the report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development on the development of deficit infrastructure to ensure competitiveness in the AfCFTA, had made the company to leverage the deficit with its cement investment.

He said,

For Dangote Industries Ltd., moving goods like cement by road from Nigeria where they are manufactured to Ghana, where there is a big market is “unviable”, hence the need for new plants that will open multiple trade routes.’’

On his part, the Group Executive Director of Dangote Industries Limited, Mr Devakumar Edwin, stated that movement of products through road was expensive, just as he also said that the Togolese and Beninese governments have both complained about the pollution from the trucks to the environment and the stress on the road infrastructure.

Edwin said,

With the success of the Doula plant in Cameroon, the company is already doubling its capacity in Yaoundé and targeting three million tonnes in the country to check competition as well as earn foreign exchange.

“Our desire to increase our investment with the Phase 2 project is based on not only the fast growth rate of the Cameroonian economy but also due to the warm welcome extended to us and the enabling environment created by the government of Cameroon. Our choice of Cameroon for this multi-million-dollar investment is quite strategic.

“Cameroon is the largest economy in Central Africa and is well endowed with abundant natural resources, political stability, adequate security and growing infrastructural development.” (africachinapresscentre)

BREAKING: FG says schools resumption date not assured

The Federal Government has said the January 18th resumption date for schools to resume is not sacrosanct, hence a new date might be announced.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu gave the hint at Monday’s briefing of the Presidential Task Force on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The PTF had in December 2020 ordered schools in the country to remain closed until January 18, 2021.
According to Adamu: “It (January 18th date of school reopening) is not sacrosanct. When we decided on that date it was just a target towards what we were working on. Of course we are keeping it in view and looking at what is happening in the society and then it is supposed to be subject to constant review. Even today at the PTF meeting we looked at the rising figures and thought about if we should probably take another look at it.
“On January 18th resumption, we are reviewing it, we are going to review it.
“At the PTF meeting today we considered it and tomorrow the Ministry is going to take it up.” (africachinapresscentre)

Indigenous cab hailing app, NAIRAXI, debuts in Abuja to reinvent services with tech

Taxi operators in Abuja have highlighted their changing roles as they are beginning to adopt technology processes to boost service delivery and revenue growth.

Speaking at the unveiling of NAIRAXI, an indigenous on-demand ride-hailing and logistics service, in Abuja, they analysed how advanced technologies presented the unprecedented transformation of the cab industry.
According to Shehu Shugabi Yar’adua, the President of Abuja Painted Taxi Operators, the technology is capable of making urban travel easier, quicker and more reliable.
He, however, provided insights into how bots had become an integral part of the ride-hailing and scooter-sharing services. Yar’Adua noted that commercial motorists must be aware of the uncomfortable shift in roles that had presented itself in the face of digital change. “The indigenous NAIRAXI driver application provides an opportunity for Abuja Painted Taxis to be repackaged for more effective transport service delivery,” he said. He further stressed that the union’s partnership with the tech company will enable the green-painted Abuja taxis to migrate into the digital ecosystem.
“So, we assure commuters of our readiness to address the challenges of vehicle cleanliness and moral ethics of its Abuja Painted Taxi Drivers, which will be included in the NAIRAXI mobile application,” Yar’Adua added.
Speaking also, the Co-Founder of NAIRAXI, Mr Kingsley Eze, noted that over 45 per cent of Abuja residents navigate the city using the painted green taxis, but over the years, they were losing a large chunk of the market share, because they don’t have the actual technology to maintain relevance for better service delivery. He stated that most of them have seen their income dwindle over the last three to four years, but will be resolved as it partners with NAIRAXI Mobile Application. According to him, “We want to change of face of mobility in the FCT with electronic commerce and logistics, thereby pioneering this very great innovation, to connect Nigerians on all income growth, to get a safe and affordable ride, order and shop for anything, as well as send and track parcels.”
