In commemoration of it’s annual law week, the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA Nigeria Abuja branch visited the Suleja Correctional Service Centre, where it conducted a legal clinic and free counselling service to female inmates. It also provided welfare packages to inmates, who were appreciative of the visit.

Chairperson of the branch, Mrs Rekia Rachel Adejo-Andrew in a press statement restated the mandate of FIDA which is to protect, preserve and promote the rights of women and children and the visitation carried out was part of the commitment of FIDA to women especially the vulnerable ones.

Chief Mrs Ngozi Okogbue, Chairperson of the Correctional Service Centre Committee of the Branch also emphasized on the need for us all to pay attention to the inmates and give them the succour they need, she also advised that in relating with the inmates we should try as much as possible to empathise with them and give them hope.
Other prominent members of FIDA Nigeria Abuja branch also encouraged lawyers and the society in general to always remember those in the correctional centre as it is a service to humanity.

In response, officials of the Correctional Service Centre expressed their appreciation to FIDA Nigeria Abuja branch while urging groups and individuals to emulate the organisation by impacting the lives of inmates.
