Those comparing the Nigerian state’s treatment of secessionist and killer Fulani herdsmen and bandits are missing a key point.
Bandits and herdsmen kill citizens but not directly the state. Secessionists attack the Nigerian state or its hegemonists.
The Nigerian state does not take seriously the lives of its citizens. But it fights violently to protect its existence and oppressive character. The Nigerian state needs total re-conception if it will promote citizenship and freedom. As it is today, the Nigerian state is anti-citizenship and anti-freedom.
This is why I am a supporter of high-energy, radical politics that reconstitutes the foundations. Call it restructuring or reconstruction.
