NBA seeks urgent intervention as lawyers heading to AGC 2026 stranded on Oghara–Sapele road

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for urgent intervention following reports that lawyers and other travellers heading to Port Harcourt for the 2026 Annual General Conference (AGC) have been stranded on the Oghara–Sapele Road in Delta State.

The NBA said the travellers became stranded after two trucks reportedly obstructed the roadway, causing significant traffic disruption and leaving motorists, including lawyers travelling to the conference, in distress since Sunday.

In a statement issued by the NBA National Publicity Secretary, Bridget Edokwe, the association expressed concern over the safety and welfare of the affected travellers, particularly given the prolonged nature of the obstruction.

The association called on the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly its Traffic Section, to immediately deploy personnel and resources to clear the obstruction and restore the free flow of traffic.

The NBA urged the relevant agencies to treat the situation as an emergency, warning that the prolonged delay could expose stranded travellers to further safety and security risks.

It also appealed to all authorities involved in traffic management along the route to take urgent measures to facilitate the safe and unhindered movement of lawyers and other delegates travelling to Port Harcourt for the conference.

The association appreciated the efforts of agencies and personnel working to ensure safe travel to the Garden City, while urging that the obstruction be resolved without further delay.

The 2026 NBA Annual General Conference is currently underway in Port Harcourt, with lawyers from across Nigeria expected to participate in the week-long professional gathering.
