The Molluma Yakubu Medico-Legal and Mass Atrocities Prevention Centre celebrates the Chair of the Board of trustees, Prof. Alhassan Mela Yakubu, as he turns a year older.
Born on 10 November 1944 at Biliri in former Bauchi state, Prof. Yakubu obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1973 from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, became a registrar and consultant respectively in 1975 and 1980, and then a professor of Paediatric Medicine in 1988.
A teacher who has taught generations of medical doctors and one widely revered as the father of pediatric medicine in Nigeria, Prof. Yakubu went on to become the Chief Medical Director of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital.
He is a consultant for several regional and international bodies including the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund.
Yakubu sits on the Medico-Legal board along with Mr. Duza Baba, a global health policy expert, Gloria Mabeiam Ballason Esq and Mrs. Gladys Calvin. Located in Kaduna- Nigeria, the Molluma Yakubu Medico-Legal Centre offers legal representation and reparation options for victims of medical malpractice and is designed to deploy forensics and other forms of scientific evidence gathering to enable victims of mass atrocities to find justice and in time have closure. Prominent Nigeria legal and human rights experts, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu and H.E. Prof. Onje Gye-Wado serve on its international advisory board along with other nationals.
