It was this love for money or perhaps an underlying mental ill-health that led a young man named Owate Bode to kill his mother.
Owate Bode has been arrested by men of the Rivers State Police Command after he killed his mother on account of 20,000 Naira. The incident occurred on a Saturday, a fortnight ago on in Aleto community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
After his arrest, Owate claimed to have been battling with a spiritual problem which according to him is the reason why he still lived with his mother.
He said he attacked his mother with a hoe because he told her to withdraw N20,000 from his bank account to enable him buy clothes to attend her (mother’s) friend’s funeral but that she gave him only N10,000.
Owate alleged that his mother gave him only N10,000, and hid the remaining 10,000. And that when he demanded the balance, she insulted him. This he said, made him angry and hit her on the head with a hoe, killing her.
In a press statement, Police PRO of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that while speaking about the incident, the suspect showed no remorse but said he was ready to die because he has had a spiritual problem for over 30 years.
