Nigeria’s Court of Appeal President (PCA), Hon. Justice Monica Dongbam-Mensam joined the cream of Abuja’s legal practitioners at the glitzy Abuja Lawyers’ league dinner and award night held on the 10th of July at NBA House in Abuja.
Justice Dongbam-Mensam who urged the organisers to make judiciary part of the league in a subsequent edition also handed out awards to deserving players in the tournament.
The 5th edition of the league concluded with Maikyau FC emerging victorious in the third place match with Chris Uche FC. The final match was between GLA and Afe Babalola FC. GLA FC clinched the cup.
Chairman of the day Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN in his remarks expressed appreciation to the organisers and encouraged them to remain unrelenting.
Y. C Maikyau, SAN on his part emphasized on harmonized collaborations between senior lawyers and junior lawyers adding that both should not see their relationship as competition but an avenue to enhance growth. He equally assured the PCA that the judiciary will be carried along in subsequent editions.
Chief organizer of the Abuja Lawyers League, Olujimi Olujide Poko, assured that the next editions will keep getting better.
Those present at the event include Country Vice- President of FIDA Nigeria, Rhoda Prevail Tyoden, Ruth Zikachat-Badung and former chairman of NBA Abuja, Desmond Yamah.
The following awards were handed out:
1. Young player of the tournament: OSUNLETI VALENTINE (RASHFORD) (AFE BABALOLA FC)
2. Most improved player: CHINEDU NWOGU (CHRIS UCHE FC)
3. Golden glove: CHINEDU NWOGU (CHRIS UCHE FC)
4. Team of the Tournament: MAIKYAU FC
5. Manager of the Tournament: CHINEDU NNADI (MAIKYAU FC)
6. Most valuable player: DALHATU MAMMAN SAFIYANU (CHRIS UCHE FC)
