Ikenna Emewu appointed research director in Chinese university

The Institute of African Studies (College of African Area and Country Studies) of the  Zhejiang Normal University (IASZNU), southeast China has appointed Ikenna Emewu, Editor-in-Chief and publisher of Africa China Economy Magazine a research director.

The appointment was contained in a letter from the university, China’s foremost citadel in African studies and exchange dated February 20.

The letter signed by the Director General of the Institute, Prof. Liu Hongwu conveyed: “Dear Mr. Ikenna Emewu, we are pleased to offer you a position as Director of China-Africa Media Communication Cooperation Center at the Institute of African Studies (College of African Area and Country Studies) of the Zhejiang Normal University (IASZNU).”

In the position, Emewu would be in charge of research on China-Africa cooperation using the media as an effective tool to drive and publicize the goals of the institute that has been in existence for decades, and one of the first of such in China.

His other duties include research partnerships, publications, authoring of books and research articles, academic support and the coordination of IASZNU researchers and students to Nigeria and Nigerian universities.

The Nigerian journalist will also handle the duty of working with the IASZNU liaison officers to promote media collaboration in Nigeria through seminars, conferences, workshops, and media interactions.  

Emewu in the past eight years has been prolific and consistent in research, paper presentation at international conferences, discussions in the media, and authoring of over 200 articles on China-Africa relations in the Nigerian and Chinese media. He is currently a contributing editor to over five major Chinese print, online, and electronic media bodies and institutes.

With his latest book published in December 2023 and titled The Chinese in the Nigerian Economy, he has authored three books in the field and featured and delivered papers at 10 international conferences in Nigeria, China, and some African countries.

He is a Fellow of the China Public Diplomacy Media Exchange Fellowship, during which he studied at the Renmin University of China, Beijing, and a Fellow of the BRI Business Executive Fellowship of the Guizhou University, Guiyang in 2018.
