— Two Magistrates Allegedly Resigns In Less Than Three Months, Cites Tedious Workload And Inadequate Consent
In order to enhance justice delivery and speedy trials within the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, forty (40) new Magistrates were on December, 2020, appointed and sworn into the FCT magisterium [albeit, under unclear circumstances], thereby bringing the total number of Magistrates at the FCT Judiciary to a total of Eighty-eight [88].
Whilst at the time of their appointment and swearing-in, the names of the supposed magistrates were largely unknown despite calls and attempts to get the full list of the appointed magistrates. TheNigeriaLawyer can however report that it has been able to secure the names of the said Magistrates, and they include:
It is noteworthy that, in less than three [3] months into their Judicial duties, TheNigeriaLawyers have been able to gather from reliable sources that two out of the forty [40] appointed magistrates have allegedly resigned from office citing unfriendly and tedious workload, draining time tasking duties, as well as inadequate consent from [their highly placed] parents before their names were forwarded [by their parents] for recruitment into the FCT Judiciary without an interview.
Recall that sometime in December 2020, TheNigeriaLawyer had reported about the controversial appointment and swearing-in of about forty [40] magistrates into the FCT Judiciary by the then Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Ishaq Usman Bello. A process which has been widely criticized for lacking in transparency, as well as being done outside the known tradition and due process of appointing qualified persons into the Judiciary after subjecting same to public scrutiny.
